About our Kayaks
Well let me me basically explain how a Nadgee kayak is made.
Firstly we layup the fabric and cloth (kevlar,carbon/kevlar or carbon) into the two halves ensuring no air entrapment and checking the quality (high)of our work as we progress . After drying and still of course on the same day we ensure that there are no snags of fibre left througout the hull and deck ensuring no ripped dry bags when you shove them in through the hatches
Next we join the two halves ( yes still on the same day ) and then we join them using a heavy duty piece of double bias fibreglass,I could go on about the double bias glass tape seam but that would involve another lesson altogether, but again we hand roll this inside tape seam all the way around the hull and deck including the bow and stern not like some manufactures that only run the tape up as far as their arms (just stick your head in your boat and have a good look at the tape seam if you dont believe me )
Lastly after almost 12 hours of detailed work we finally get to sit and have a beer (oops water!!) and crank the wood fire in the shed and give the NADGEE that has just been built a good cooking with temperatures well over 50 deg for a good 8 hours. Now you might ask why?? Well let me explain --yes you can do all of the above and just let the fibreglass dcure by its self but by cooking the " NADGEE" you obtain much higher strength properties in the fabric than just ambient temperature curing -now ask your man ufacturer what temperature their boats are cooked in as doing it this way you get a much stronger cure
Now all of this is done in house in my custom built manufacturing plant (10 mtr x 10mtr shed) that is soley used for Nadgee kayaks using quality Vinyl Ester resins (not your plain old polyester resin ) which is as comparable as epoxy resin in strength but has the added benifit of good heat prpoerties as we often can have our boats sitting on very hot sand something Epoxy doesnt like as for polyester the well it doesnt compare in any standing to Vinly Ester, dont just believe me do your own rescearch you will find out,We also make all of our own accessories in house offering you the customer superior quality and service and stand by our products.
Lastly Nadgee kayaks has taken it on its self to value add to the NADGEE kayaks (at no extra cost) by reducing the high CARBON FOOTPRINT that composite manufacture uses (not to mention the extra carbon overseas manufactures use by shipping their boats to Australia)
Now how do they do that you ask ?
Well- Here at Nadgee kayaks our whole buisness (as is my home) is 100% run on solar power which reduces the CARBON FOOTPRINT very significantly and hopefully in the not too distant future I will also be delivering your kayak to your door by bio-diesal reducing the foot print even further
I know its not exactely kayaking but something I take very importantly and something we are all getting used to
One more thing
AUSTRALIAN MADE AND AUSTRALIAN OWNED
Below is a short summary of what is standard on a Nadgee expedition
- VCP hatches and rims (large rear and one day hatch and one forward hatch )
- Foot operated pump
- Custom made removable seat and backband
- Vinyl ester resin
- Option of either sliding footrest or custom fitted bulkhead
- Towing points
- Deck lines
- Spare paddle park( not strapped over your hatches)
- Choice of a huge range colours
- Tape seaming inside and out done at Layup ( important !!)
- Pressure relief valves for each compartment (stops those hatches bulging and exploding)
