material for deck on jon boat
Hi everyone - thinking of redecking my 12' Jon Boat this winter. My boat currently has a plywood deck however the moisture has blown it up over the last few years. Any suggestions on the type of material I should use? I have two pedestal seats to install as well. Thanks in advance for your input ! JC
Has anyone made a removable casting deck? My kids like going on the boat so I would like to keep the benches for them but I would like to have a deck for when I'm by myself. I was thinking of doing something similar to dzus fasteners to hold it in place(I would have to make my own though since they are for sheet metal and my deck would be plywood).
Re: how to build removable casting deck on a bowrider more than one way to skin that cat. We'd need more details about the bow area to say for sure. Crestliner did a neat thing where the bow cushions would fold to the middle and had a half circle cut on the edge of each side so that you could drop a seat post down to the deck plate..instant deck!
My deck is removable. It doesn't span two benches, but rests on a curved, cut 2x6 block at the front of the bow. The deck is also only half a bench high, so maybe 4-6" off the actual floor of the boat, but more than enough to give a much larger working area (roughly 4'x3.5' tapering to the bow).
