Re: Waxing non skid I had a portion in the rear deck of the boat that was stained yellow and looking pretty bad. I used a strong acid based cleaner to remove the stain and used an aggressive cutting compound with a micro fiber cloth to remove the oxidation.
The chemists at Marine 31 are constantly developing new products and making improvements to existing products (although we doubt that’s even possible) so you can spend more time out on the open water enjoying a clean, shiny, protected boat. Each and every Marine 31 boat wax, boat cleaner and boat polish is extensively tested before making it to production, finding its way to this page and, more importantly, landing in the hands of eager boaters.
Directions. If deck is dirty, use Star brite Non-Skid Deck Cleaner as Step 1. Spray Non-Skid Deck Wax onto surface to be treated, spreading evenly with a cotton cloth, microfiber cloth or Star brite Reggae Mitt to ensure uniform coverage. Wipe up excess with a clean, dry cloth or Reggae Mitt. Use as often as needed.
I renew the wax every six months. My 4 year old boat looks like new and the old boat looked likewise and brought a tradein. The 3 M product is available without a rubbing compound and that is what should be used on a new boat. Perhaps your dealer is worried that a wax with rubbing conpound will dull the finish.
Our boat was polished with Starbrite Marine Polish and then waxed with Collinite Fleet wax. I let it go too long since the last wax job thus the polish. Looks new again. You can see the reflection of the fenders in the hull. Will keep a better watch on the wax this time. Should keep the nonslip cleaner.
Wax Your New Boat. Don't wait until your boat starts looking dull to wax it. If you keep gelcoat protected with a once or twice a year coat of wax, that new-boat shine will last nearly forever. Use paste wax. Liquid waxes are easier to apply and actually have higher gloss initially, but they do not have the staying power of a good paste.
Wash with a proper detergent. Finish washing the surface with a sponge and special boat soap or a mild solution of dishwashing detergent and warm water. If the surface of your boat is stained, it's sometimes common to use a small amount of bleach to disinfect and clean thoroughly.
Wax Your New Boat. By Don Casey. Revised by BoatUS editors in April 2012. The idea behind wax is to prolong the shine, not to floor it. Don't wait until your boat starts looking dull to wax it. If you keep gelcoat protected with a once or twice a year coat of wax, that new-boat shine will last nearly forever. Use paste wax.
First wash the deck with Boat Clean Plus. Apply some Boat Scrub and give it a good scrubbing. Now rinse everything clean. These products are biodegradable so they won’t hurt the lake or the fish.
