I know the deal with wiping the teak with Acetone first and have read not to use polyurathanes. If I am spraying some flat panels and brushing the trim pieces, what is the best Varninsh for oily wood (Teak) with the best build up and UV for exterior. Trying to get it right this time :-) Richard

Teak is an almost perfect wood for boats, since it resists rot and is very stable from warpage and cracking. On the downside, it dulls tools quickly because it is full of silica, and the very oil that helps preserve it from rot also makes it hard to paint or varnish.
The handrails on my boat have taken a beating over the years from the sun. What was once a rich shiny brown is now a dull faded gray. I had been thinking about sanding the teak handrails down for some time but the thought of the work involved made me delay it far too long.
